There are a few things to consider before you learn how to mount a plasma TV. Positioning the TV is important when considering window light glare. If possible, find the darkest room in the home to designate as you viewing room. Another issue is sight distance. Find the right size for the viewing room. A 50 inch plasma is appropriate for a viewing distance between 12 feet and 16 feet.
The viewing angle is important too. Straining your neck upward or downward too far can cause pain. A straight on viewing angle with your head level is ideal. Plasma TV mounts can be a fixed position where the TV can only be slide left and right a set amount of distance to accommodate centering.
Some plasma TV wall mounts can be adjusted on a pivot that can angle the TV up or down. Some viewing rooms may need this due to the height of the mounting. Over fireplace mantels, for example, may make it necessary to angle the TV downwards.
Some plasma mount brackets can be locked. This is usually accomplished by placing a hard metal loop lock and key. A metal plate that fits between the plasma TV mount and the TV, allows the lock to physically stop the TV from being removed from the plasma TV mounting bracket. This helps deter theft.
Consider routing all cables and wires through the wall to help reduce the potential for a tripping hazard. When mounting a plasma TV mounting bracket you must find the studs behind the wall board. This is essential because a 50 inch plasma can weigh 80 pounds. Because studs in the wall may not give you a perfect finished look, it is important to plan carefully. Think about where the outlet will be on the wall in relation to the TV.
Will the plasma TV mounting bracket have enough left-right adjustment to place the TV where you want it to be? If the outlet is on the same part of the wall as the TV, then you may want to center the TV over the outlet. Will you wall mount the DVD or Blue Ray player? It may be necessary to custom make a plate that can span the full 16 inches from one stud to the next stud. The custom made wood plate can then hold the DVD Blue Ray player.
