Installing A Home Alarm System Lowers Your Insurance Rates

Crime is starting to move from the inner city to the take up shop in the suburbs today, and your family’s safety should be a number one priority. Not only will installing a home alarm give you that added tier of protection to your home but it will reduce your homeowner’s insurance rates by a certain percentage as well. Check with your insurance agent to see what discounts are available. Some policies will give you a generous ten percent discount for a professionally installed security system. As with all insurance companies get it in writing to make sure you have done everything to their requirements.

Make sure when you have your alarm system for the home installed, and inspected by the city, that you have all your paperwork together and make copies to send to the insurance company. You may be required to take photos of the equipment for verification of the installation.

Ask your agent if there are additional discounts for having fire and smoke detectors added to your system for additional protection. The local fire department may have to inspect your system as well to get the needed alarm permit for your home or business. A yearly alarm permit fee will most likely have to be kept up to avoid fines and penalties by local and county agencies.

Little to no maintenance is required for home alarms, but if there is a problem with wiring or a sensor, get it fixed immediately. False alarms that are dispatched by the police or fire departments can produce fines up to one thousand dollars in some areas. Also, consider having a backup communication line installed with your home alarm, such as a wireless or cell phone option. This will activate in case your land line becomes disabled and your home alarm can still communicate with the alarm company services.

Adding motion sensitive floodlights externally, and integrated driveway alarms can increase your protection and more discounts realized by your insurer. The best home alarm system will not protect you from every possible situation, but will give you a hedge against most would-be burglars, and home invaders. Intrusion sensors are so advanced with home alarm systems today, that you can even have them attached to your gates, fences, and garage doors to create an even tighter invisible perimeter of protection for your family. They even optionally provide key ring fobs that will allow you to arm and disarm your home alarm system remotely when coming and going from your house.
