Is it time to replace your shower head? If you have had it installed in your shower for more then a year, without cleaning it, chances are that it may need some attention. Most of the time, you will be able to simply clean the shower head filter, and the unit will begin functioning like new again. However, when the hard water buildup has gotten too heavy, you will probably have to start looking through the new shower heads to determine which model you like the most. There are quite a few different types of shower units for you to choose from, but we’ll cover a few of the basics.
Hand held shower heads, or wands as they are called, are what you are going to come across most often. You are going to be able to choose from a wide range of styles, that have different types of water beads coming from them. Most will have a switch that you can use, while some, you are going to have to turn the head to get the force of the water to change to something a bit more comfortable.
A dual shower head, or rain shower head is going to cost you slightly more each month, then buying one of the more basic models. These types of shower heads disperse massive amounts of water, to completely envelop your body while you are standing under them. This is great for giving you a relaxing, and comfortable shower, however, it is bad for your water bill at the end of each month. If you are wanting to enjoy your shower, while still saving money, then these options may not be for you.
One type of shower head that you can look at, if you are wanting to lower your monthly water bills, is a low flow shower head. Different companies have taken the time to think about Mother Nature, and give back to the earth, instead of taking from it. While these are more along the lines of full water recirculation systems, you can get the same effect from your shower head. Using a recirculation system, or even a natural source, such as a well, will require you to use some sort of filters inside of the shower head itself, to prevent excess buildup of harmful deposits, such as calcium and lime.
