Like most things, good, quality patio furnishings can be expensive. Of course, much of the patio furniture on the market these days is made from less expensive aluminum and plastic, providing a short-term solution to patio needs – but lending itself to little concern over long-term care. However, special thought needs to be given to the maintenance and care of furniture bought for the long term that is made with higher priced specialty wood such as cedar or even teak. These higher end materials used to frame the furniture might indeed be more durable, but they still need protection from the elements.
One must also consider any wicker or fabric material stretched across the seat or back or used for additional padding; it can be worn out quickly if not properly protected from its naturally enemy – nature itself. Many times, the best looking cedar chairs, sporting a perfectly coordinated set of fabric cushions can begin to look old and tattered simply because the removal cushions have become covered with mold dirt and pollen that has been subsequently baked in the hot summer sun.

One of the best ways to protect patio furniture is with patio furniture covers. Patio covers are manufactured to fit virtually everything on the patio, including the barbecue grill. Buying complete patio covers sets will extend the life of the furnishings – and, as is the case with most purchases, buying the complete set at once will save money, not to mention insure a coordinated set.
Patio chairs comes in a variety of styles – from low and long chaise lounges to high and narrow bar chairs, so, patio chair covers are made to fit each of the styles – insuring long-term protection from wear and color fading due to the outdoor elements. Specialty stores, such as an outdoor furniture stores, will have the best quality covers available and can even special order covers. Discount stores may not have the same selection or quality.
A patio furniture cover can range in price from $25 on up, depending on the size and shape of the item it is intended to cover. Well fitted covers made from more durable material designed to weather the inclement conditions of a stormy springtime season can cost more, but will be considerably less than replacing patio furniture every season – especially when the furniture is made of more expensive materials like Teak or Cedar.
