Choosing the Right Closet Doors for Your Bedroom

If you are in the process of remodeling your bedroom and you are planning on either renovating or perhaps completely replacing your closets, you may want to take some time to consider what would be the best style of closet and closet doors for your specific room.

There are many different styles of doors to choose from including sliding closet doors, sliding wardrobe doors, mirrored closet doors, bifold closet doors and accordion doors to name but a few. While some styles would be fine no matter what size your room was, others are more suited to bedrooms that are fairly spacious. If space is a concern for you, for example, you would probably be better off fitting sliding doors into your closet as they take up much less space when you are opening and closing your wardrobe. Alternatively, you may find that mirrored doors help your room to look more spacious which may be preferable to you, providing you can live with having to walk around tight spaces when the doors are opened. You do have to be careful with what the mirrored doors will reflect though, so do keep that in mind when deciding on what style of door to go with.

Aside from space concerns, there are also other things to keep in mind when buying closet doors. Using the mirrored doors as an example, they are usually not the best for a child’s room, as little fingers will end up putting fingerprints all over them. The same can be said for any bedroom, these types of doors will need regular cleaning in order for them to continue to look nice. Perhaps the easiest doors to maintain are either wooden sliding doors or regular wooden doors. While they need to be cleaned from time to time, they usually remain fairly nice looking as long as they are dusted from time to time with a nice furniture wood polish. In addition, it is best if the wood is not too soft, as with regular use, it can become damaged very easily and a closet usually does get a lot of use.

Finally, while the bed is often the focal point of a bedroom, closets are a close second in any room. Make sure the doors match with your other furniture. If you can get a matching headboard, closet and side tables, that would be preferable. If you are not able to do so, at least make sure that the wood is a similar grain and color. A lightly stained wood headboard would not match very well with a dark wood closet door.
