When most people think of a loft, they’re actually lost as to what one looks like. A loft is actually space used underneath the roof of a home for storage, or in this case, for sleeping. Loft beds are furniture which are raised up from the ground, to provide a “sleeping on air” feeling.

These types of beds help you to make the best use of the space you have available, and are also found in college dormitories. Because the bed is raised off of the ground, you can use the space underneath for a desk, or other storage options. Children and teenagers bedrooms are also great places for loft beds.

In a simple summary, a loft bed is a bed that has legs to hold it off the ground. Most loft beds come in standard, or twin sized frames, with braces attached to the inner rails of the frame to hold the mattress or box spring in place. You can easily convert a regular bed into a raised loft bed. You must keep safety at the forefront of the plans, in order to avoid any accidents.

The legs that you construct must be incredibly durable, and preferably braced off to one another, to prevent any swaying. If you are wanting to modify the structure of your home to accommodate a loft bed, you may want to consult with the services of a professional.

There are quite a few home owners who have custom loft beds built to their specific needs. Once you have completed the project, it is time to figure out what you are going to do with the space that just became available underneath the bed. Some loft bed plans include additional storage features that you can have installed, or install yourself underneath the bed.

One of the options that a lot of home owners are going with, is the addition of a futon couch directly under the bed, with a desk at the open end. The space underneath the bed can also be used to store younger kids toys, clothes, and practically anything else you can imagine. Giving your children a space to call their own, to work, and play, will help them develop their minds as independent thinkers. By making clever design choices, you will help them learn to become organized, without them realizing that they are doing what you want them to do.

If you are having problems finding the type of loft bed that you want, with the particular options you require, then you can either buy plans, or consult with a builder to have a custom designed loft bed installed into your home.

This question has been one that has come up quite a bit, and it seems that while people are performing loft additions to their homes, that they are having problems finding a good quality ladder that they can use, and trust to have installed. The main issue comes from these types of ladders being small, but also because the height of the lofted area is unreachable without one. Many homeowners are finding themselves confused about where to begin looking for one, or how much they should spend on one. Hopefully, we can clear a few things up for you.

First, you are going to want to obviously avoid using a construction company, or carpenter for these types of jobs. While it is true that you may be able to find one willing to do the job, most are going to simply tell you that it is too small, and not really worth their time. You may still be able to find a handyman that would be willing to build one for you, but you must understand that it is going to cost substantially more then if you were to purchase a ladder that was already built. If you must go with a carpenter, make sure to shop around to ensure that you get the best deal.

Next, because the lofted area is raised off of the ground, you are going to have to take accurate measurements to ensure exactly the length of wooden loft ladders you are going to have to be looking for. If space is an issue, you can even think about buying a telescopic loft ladder that you can store when it is not being used. These types of ladders are perfect when you have little ones running around that should not have access to the loft. Electric loft ladders operate in a very similar fashion, by providing you access when you need it, and being stored when not in use.

Once you have determined which type of loft ladders you are going to need, you want to set a budget for yourself. Make sure that you stick to it, because remodeling and addition projects can easily go well over what you intended to spend. Wooden loft ladders will probably be your cheapest choice, while aluminium loft ladders, wooden, and electric will end up costing you quite a bit more. Ensure that whatever company or carpenter you are purchasing the ladder from, that they are putting out high quality products. Having a loft ladder collapse on you would be devastating, and for this reason alone, you should avoid trying to pinch pennies on the purchase of one.

Loft ladders have been around for centuries, and have only improved in design, safety and value along the way. The term itself can be a little confusing for people from the United States, because we usually call them attic ladders. In the UK, just about any room below the roof, but not on the main floor is called the loft. Today the designs of different loft ladders vary in the hundreds, if not thousands. These devices and their installation can be as minimal as just leaning a ladder toward the entrance, or well designed, and aesthetically pleasing to compliment the room where it is installed.

Some of the different types of ladders include the following: aluminum, concertina, electric, timber or wooden, and of course the most popular in the USA is the telescopic or folding loft ladder. Whatever type you chose, make sure that they are installed properly, and have the necessary safety accessories to help preventing slips and falls.

Generally, you can have a ladder designed for gentle and easy climbing to prevent hurting one’s self while using the ladder. A gradually sloped ladder that has deep rungs and a wide width will be very handy in cases of carrying objects in one hand while climbing with the other.

A very popular use for loft ladders in the United States is for log cabins that have loft bedrooms about the living area. Some fold up out of the ways, while others are on a castor system that allows you to push the ladder to the side to free up room down stairs while not in use. This type of ladder will require professional installation after your loft construction is completed. Make sure to keep extra paint or wood stain that was initially used so the ladder can be touched up in the future.

Immediately replace all rubber skid pads that become worn from normal wear and tear to prevent falls. Periodically check any metal hardware that can become lose from use as well. Nuts and bolts on loft ladders can become lose over time and impose a safety risk. Ask your loft ladder reseller about maintenance on the item when researching your purchase.

Make sure that you know the maximum weight the ladder can handle to prevent damage to your ladder and of course preventing hard to your family. Lastly, if you are having a custom loft ladder built, make sure you get the blueprints, or design sketches with the dimensions listed incase it has to be repaired or rebuilt in the future.

Are you looking for the perfect loft ladder for your bed or your loft? You can get a new loft ladder today at a very low price. In fact, if you visit your favorite department store, you will find a lot of different designs to choose from.

Telescoping, folding, and sliding loft ladders come in a wide range of materials. Wooden loft ladders for example cost about $100. Getting them online is cheaper though so it would be best if you browsed for a timber loft ladder or any type of wooden loft ladders for you to get the best deals.

If you do not like it made out of wood, you can get an aluminum loft ladder. This kind of ladder lasts longer than the wooden ones. Choosing from the different types of loft ladders may give you a hard time but you should take a look which type of loft ladder is best for your space and your loft. Folding loft ladders, for example, are lightweight and functional. You will not have a hard time installing them as well, because loft ladder installation for folding loft ladders is easy to do. In fact, you can install your folding loft ladder in just an hour or two.

Telescoping and sliding loft ladders are also easy to install but if you decide on purchasing one, make sure that the loft ladder you choose will last for a very long time. Along with that, you should also make sure that your ladder has warranty.

Getting a durable and high quality ladder for your loft will save you a lot of money because they last longer than loft ladders made out of cheap materials. Some cheap loft ladders however are very sturdy and last for a lifetime.

If you have a lofted bed area, a bed loft ladder is what you need. There are many bed loft ladders for you to choose from. You can get them from any department store or you can go to online ladder stores for more design options.

Most bed loft ladders cost around $250. If you are looking for a sturdier bed loft ladder, you should be prepared to pay around the $600 to $700 range.

Some loft ladders are more expensive especially ones that are made out of real hardwood as these last longer and will look more beautiful as they age. If you want cherry wood however, you would have to prepare a certain amount to purchase one. Cherry wood may be more expensive than other hardwood but they sure are beautiful.
